Accutane is a “black-label”, highly toxic internal medicine that is available for the treatment of acne. The process is long- you will have a meeting with Dermatologist, be required to complete a month of oral antibiotics, do regular blood and urine testing, and then start treatment. Accutane will make you purge for the first 2-3 months before you start to clear, during this time the skin on your entire body will be weak, thin, and cracked. After 5 or 6 months your Rx will expire and you still have about a 25% chance of your acne returning. There are many people for whom Accutane was the magic pill, and many who are still suffering from its side effects while they battle their acne that has returned. Many studies are now linking Accutane with Crohn’s disease and vision damage.
